Speaker Bio
Ms. Young is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Horticulture at the University of Florida (UF), building upon my Master of Science degree earned in December 2021 from the same institution. Alongside my studies, I am actively involved in teaching various courses at UF's Department of Environmental Horticulture, covering topics such as Arboriculture, Tree Diagnostics, and Advanced Landscape Design. My research focus lies in studying the impacts of climate change, particularly on urban tree species in Gainesville, Florida, where I am conducting experiments to simulate future temperature scenarios. Additionally, I am exploring strategies to mitigate urban heat islands (UHIs) through innovative parking lot designs, aiming to minimize the effects of rising temperatures in urban areas. My work integrates academic research with practical solutions to address pressing environmental challenges and contribute to sustainable urban development.
